The Man Chant
My husband, Eric, wanted to teach our son how to be a man after God's own heart, so he came up with a "Man Chant" for them to say together. Eric started teaching this to Charlie when he was only two and now they chant it together in unison whenever they say goodbye. They hold up their fists and say one phrase at a time, holding up a new finger with each of the 5 phrases. Charlie scrunches up his face with a fierce glare and they say it together using their deepest and most powerful sounding voices. They always end the chant with a big hug. It melts my heart every time!
It goes like this:
We are MEN.
We are BRAVE.
We are STRONGWe SERVE.
We are men, we are brave, and we are strong was inspired by Deuteronomy 31:6, which says "Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
We serve and we love was inspired by Galatians 5:13, which says "You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love."
Another passage that inspired Eric to write the Man Chant comes from 1 Corinthians 16:13-14: "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love."
We also use this chant as a teaching tool. For example, just today the kids were fighting about who got to pick the movie for family movie night. Eric reminded Charlie that part of being a man is to serve. They said the chant together and Charlie ended up deciding to serve his little sis by letting her pick the movie this time.

I pretty much copied the Man Chant to make the Girl Chant, which I do with my daughters. Check back Wednesday, September 26th, to download the Girl Chant printable and read about how I do this with the girls.
